There's a big difference between my culture and my ethnicity. With culture it's the environment around you and who you're with that effects you. It's something that changes all the time, and for me that's living in Britain, that's my culture and environment. But with ethnicity, that's something you can't change, it's something engrained in you and personally that stems from Jamaica and Trinidad. But in the end I'm just me.
Favourite TV channels?
I couldn't live without Sky Sports 1,2,3 extra and Sky Sports news, coz I love Football, Tennis and Snooker. Other TV channels include MTV base (sometimes), Challenge (for Old Skool 'Gladiators', 'The Crystal Maze' and 'Fear Factor'). And of course I love the Sky Movie channels (they should make more channels!)
Favourite TV programmes?
I'm quite specific. I don't just watch programmes because they're on, I would normally plan what I'm watching beforehand (thanks to my TV addict of a sister!). 'Soccer AM' is compulsive to my Saturday mornings. 'Dragon's Den' is also worth a watch. But overall I am a great fan of David Attenborough's fantastic documentaries and comedy sketch shows such as the 'Two Ronnies' (masterful!), 'The Catherine Tate Show' and 'The Lenny Henry Show'.
TV and my ethnicity?
My ethnicity doesn't really correspond to the programmes that I watch. The only channel I can think of is MTV base.
The best characters on TV?
Andy Gray is a popular face in football programmes and is also a great analyst.
I think Ainsley Harriot it a great character and is quite enjoyable to watch.
Sir Trevor McDonald is a legend to my race and to the news industry in general.
What are your favourite/most used websites?
Which sites do you use for networking?
I use WWW.MYSPACE.COM a lot and WWW.HI5.COM also.
What role do those sites play in your life?
Well, I have found good friends and girlfriends from it, but the website doesn't play a major role in my life. I use to look at it maybe once a day, now I may look through it twice a month.
How has your use of the Internet changed over time?
Yes. The more I grew up, the more it was centered around my life, from teaching in schools to compulsive communication between friends. The Internet hasn't changed as such, it's the popularity and its multi-use function that has escalated over the years.
Favourite radio channels?
I mainly listen to BBC 5 live for commentary of football and pre and post match analysis. I will, at times, listen to LBC because the debates are really good occasionally. If I was in a situation where I just had a radio the music station I would listen to would be 1xtra.
Favourite DJ/radio presenter?
Eamonn Holmes is a good presenter both in TV and in Radio, but my favourite DJ's are Kat and Richard Blackwood from Choice FM.
Which ethnic radio stations do you listen to and why?
I don't particularly listen to stations that are part of my ethnicity, but I suppose Choice and 1xtra are supposedly part of my ethnicity, but I would usually label them as part of my culture, not my ethnicity.
What are your favourite magazines?
I don't really read magazines although I would buy the odd computer magazine if I come across it in the shops. However I do like to read some science magazines such as "Biological Molecules" and "New Scientist".
What are your favourite newspapers?
The weekday paper I would read is The Mirror, but the Sunday paper I would read is The Times which is a great read. And good value for your money also!
Which brands do you value most and why?
Well Microsoft is quite an important brand in my life. However Nike, Adidas, Nokia and Greggs are brands that I value and consequently would find hard to live without.
Which brand is a truly multicultural British brand?
I have always thought that the Topman / Topshop brand are very multicultural. Finance firms such as Barclays and Natwest appeal to everyone. Restaurants such as Pizza Hut and Mr Bagel's offer a range of toppings that satisfy nearly every racial and religious demand.
