With the exception of sport, mainstream TV is a poor reflection of their world. Young mixed race Britain’s show a determination to find channels and programmes that either enhance their youthfulness or enhance their ethnicity
Specific channels such as Channel U, seem to communicate with them on a better level. It better understands their lives and their needs
As well as being a great tool for finding out about and connecting with their heritage, the internet provides a safe, non judgemental environment to meet and network with peers.

While mixed race respondents are keen to pursue their own path, they do have a real desire to learn more about their ethnic roots and heritage and therefore have a shared TV on occasion with at least one of their parents
Although they appreciate channel 4’s varied programming, its felt not to be geared towards them. It does not speak to them in the same way as channel U or Trouble
Channel 4’s programming does not focus on their primary interests of sport, comedy and music
“A lot of the time channel 4 have one really good show and it’ll go dead for a while - so it wont be constant entertainment all the time, I just watch it every now and again”
